Vacancy

We are prayerfully seeking a full-time pastor

Having recently sent our pastor to the mission field, we are seeking a full-time pastor to lead locally and encourage ministers who serve in the churches we have helped plant: a man who will preach God’s Word, lead the church in outreach, nurture disciples, and equip others for ministry.

Job Description

Title: Lead Elder (Pastor)

Job type: Full time, permanent

Salary and benefits package: tailored following further discussion.

Location: North-central Edinburgh, Scotland

Grace Baptist Church Edinburgh (GBCE) originated as a church plant in West Edinburgh and was constituted in September 2013. Our founding motto has been: “Bless us! that all the ends of the earth may fear you” (Psalm 67:7). In all things, our aim is to edify the saints, notify the lost and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. Our basis of faith and ecclesiology can broadly be summarised by the London Baptist Confession of 1689.

We are situated in a densely populated ward of central Edinburgh, with 50% of locals being aged 25-44yrs old (mostly students or young cohabiting professionals in rented flats). In the 2022 census less than 5% of locals identified as Protestant Christian while 51% of locals claimed to be atheist or have no religion.

We seek a godly man with appropriate gifting and experience to serve God as pastor of GBCE; both consolidating and progressing the work, with the support of our current bi-vocational elders.

A successful candidate must:

  • qualify for eldership according to the standards set forth in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

  • have experience in pastoral, teaching and evangelistic ministry in a reformed baptist context, and an appreciation of church-planting work.

  • have an intense desire for the glory of God, and be able to translate this into a vision for the church.

Job responsibilities include:

  • setting an example of faithful Christian living.

  • serving as primary preacher (guarding the doctrinal integrity, and guiding the spiritual growth and strategic vision of the church using the Word).

  • joining current bi-vocational elders in equipping the saints for discipleship and evangelism.

  • joining current elders in praying for the flock and administering biblical counselling and church discipline.

  • identifying and developing men within the church who might serve as deacons, elders and missionaries.

  • leading current elders in providing pastoral accountability, support, and strategic advice to GBCEs church plants.

  • pursuing further church planting and revitalisation opportunities in the UK and abroad (in partnership with Grace Baptist Partnership and Anchored in Truth).
